Flute. Nominal pitch: C.
Technical description: Ebonite; 4 sections; german silver keys; 4 german silver ferrules; long, metal-lined tuning-slide section; metal sockets; metal tenons (cork-lapped); short lower tenon; large finger-holes (covered); oval embouchure-hole (end blown); adjacent, rectangular touches on foot, with small stub for lowC.The fingering system differs slightly from the normal 8-key flute. The right hand on this instrument is the same as the left hand on a 'right-handed' flute, but depressing L1 (equivalent to R1 on a right-handed instrument) takes down two hole covers simultaneously to give E, and the only fingering available for (a rather inadequate) F♯ appears to be to leave L1 up while depressing L2, or L2 and L3; cf. 8-key flute with covered action (814) for a right-handed version of this system. L1: E; C. L2: PL - E. L3: D; cross F. L4: D♯; low C♯; low C. R0: B♭. R1: B. R2: A. R3: PL - G. R4: G♯; long F. Keymount type: rod/pillar. Keyhead type: cylinder cup.
