Oboe. Nominal pitch: C.

Technical description: Rosewood with silver keys and four silver ferrules at reed well, sockets and bell. There is a small onion shaped baluster at the top of the instrument. Sockets and reed well are unlined. This instrument is very similar to (71), the turning and silver work being virtually identical. The lowB and lowB♭ keys are not linked, to play lowB♭ it is necessary to press both keys. All the keys are levers except the octave key. There is a slight inward flange at the base of the bell. L0: 8. L1: PP. L2: T. L3: TT. L4: G♯; lowB♭; lowB. R0: sup. R1: TT; B♭; C. R2: T. R3: T; F. R4: lowC; F♯; C♯; E♭. The F♯ is to the right of the lowC key, the E♭ is below it, and the C♯ key over the C and slightly below it; slurring between E♭ and lowC or C♯ is made possible by a see-saw pivoted between the two keys and touching both - the change of notes is performed by sliding the finger along the see-saw bar. Keymount type: pillars. Keyhead type: cup.
