Flute. Nominal pitch: C.
Technical description: Cocus; 5 sections; silver keys; 7 silver ferrules; small finger-holes; screw-stopper; tuning-slide; oval embouchure-hole; mother-of-pearl on cap; cork-lapped and metal-tipped tenons; metal-lined sockets; reverse conical foot; cork pads throughout; metal bushed key-holes on body sections. The crescent- and diamond-shaped base plates, combined with wide silver ferrules and serial number between 1 and c5500 (1818-36) all help to suggest a date of c1830 for this instrument (Giannini 1993, pp.82-92, 166). Keymount type: pillars with crescent- and diamond-shaped base-plates screwed into wood (flush with body); leaf-springs. Keyhead type: round, bevelled cup.
