Technical description: Cocus; 2sections (body and foot in one piece); silver keys; 4silver ferrules and silver disc in cap; thinned, metal-lined head; metal tuning-slide extending from head; raised wooden embouchure-plate with large oval embouchure-hole; metal-lined socket at top of body; modern-style foot mechanism arrangement; the trill keys for R1 and R2 are more usually both allotted to R1 in this system, the present arrangement being referred to in the firm's stock book entry for this instrument as 'modern shakes', and elsewhere as 'Vivian shakes' (probably referring to the flautist A.P.Vivian (1855-1903), the 'shakes' being trill keys).
