Oboe. Nominal pitch: C.

Technical description: Rosewood with german silver keys and 2 ferrules at the sockets. There are german silver rings at the bell end and at top of the instrument. The bell has an inward flange at the base. There is an onion-shaped baluster at the top of the instrument. The bell has an unusual 'ogee' form, going to a narrower waist before widening slightly to a 'bulge' and then narrowing to the socket: this shaping is not reflected internally although the bell flares more dramatically than is usual on the oboe. There is a single, small vent-hole in the bell. All keys are levers except the D tr key, the ring mechanism on R2 and 3 and the mechanism for the R4 keys. The lowC key stands closed and is opened by the R2 and 3 rings. The R3 and 4 rings both close the brille mechanism. There is a link between the lowB and C keys. L0: 82; B♭-dup. L1: T; 81. L2: T. L3: TT: Dtr. L4: G♯; F-alt; E♭-dup; lowB. R0: sup. R1: T; B♭; C. R2: R. R3: R; F. R4: lowC; C♯; E♭. Keymount type: pillar. Keyhead type: cup.
