Oboe. Nominal pitch: C.
Technical description: Boxwood with silver keys and mounts and four ivory ferrules at reed well sockets and bell. The sockets are unlined. There is an onion-shaped baluster at the top of the instrument. All the keys are levers. The double lever for the lowC key has a single lever for the C♯ key above it so that pressing the C♯ key opens the C♯ and closes the lowC. The keys, especially on the upper section, are particularly small and delicate, the heads fitting accurately into the counter-sinking around the holes. The link of the lowB key between the middle and bell sections is by a small fork which requires considerable care when assembling the instrument. L1: T. L2: T. L3: TT. L4: G♯; C; lowB. R0:, R1: TT; B♭. R2: T. R3: T; F. R4: lowC; F♯; lowC ass; E♭. Keymount type: The E♭ and lowC keys are on raised rings. The C♯ key is on a metal bridge with the lowC key running underneath. All other keys are on pillars mounted on metal plates let into the boxwood. Keyhead type: flat, round. Repair History: There is a crack from the B♭ hole running down to the plate supporting the key. This has been repaired with three pins, it does not appear to have been necessary to insert a bush in the B♭ hole. All the keys except the lowC and E♭ are probably later additions.
