Technical description: Set of Highland bagpipes, full size, with chanter, blowpipe, mouthpiece, bass and tenor drones. Original bag cover, ribbon, case and reed. Cocus with nickel-silver ferrules, ivory tops and celluloid sole. Modern bag and plastic mouthpiece. Blowpipe and drones are turned with very finely executed beading and combing decoration.Chanter: original chanter. Seven finger-holes and one thumb-hole. Lapped tenon with bulb. Celluloid sole and nickel-silver ferrule on stock. The finger-holes have been altered with undercutting to adjust tuning. With old chanter reed, broken.Blowpipe/mouthpiece: black plastic mouthpiece with rubber tooth guard on original blowpipe. Lapped tenon. Replacement valve of rubber. Nickel-silver ferrule on stock. Repaired crack on blowpipe.Bass Drone: three sections. Nickel-silver ferrules and ivory top. Large crack in the second section, repaired with wood filler.Tenor drones1 and 2: two sections. Nickel-silver ferrules and ivory top.Bag: modern bag marked on the welt.Bag cover/cord: original red and green tartan bag cover with wool fringe. Tan-colours felt bag liner. Red and green tartan ribbon and green wool cording.Measurements: chanter length 365, conical bore beginning at 4.5 and ending at 21.6; bass drone length c670; tenor drones length c330. Repair History: There are a few cracks but they have been repaired. The mouthpiece is a replacement.
