Transverse flute in C
Side-blown, Pratten system flute made of silver-plated metal in three sections (head, body and foot joints). Silver-plated keys with cylinder cups, mounted in posts with rods affixed on plates. Open ring-keys on 1st and 2nd fingerholes. Remainder ring-keys closed. Metal roller for low C key touch. Flat springs attached to keys and needle springs. Cylindrical bore. Nominal pitch: C. Robert Sidney Pratten (1824–1868), a distinguished flute player, proposed many designs to improve flutes. The "Pratten Perfected" model had a key configuration closely modelled on earlier systems, meaning that players were not required to learn new fingerings, as required by the new systems of Theobald Boehm.
