Banjo

Open-back, fretless banjo with circular-rim body and calfskin membrane. Hardwood rim with light wood neck (teak?) and maple peghead. Wooden tone ring with eight brass tension hooks. Seven friction tuning pegs made of dark wood (six at the back of the peghead, one at the side of the neck) with seven strings (three silver-wound, two gut, one fake string of cotton thread). Metal guide pin for 7th string. Wooden nut. Bridge is missing. Light wood tailpiece with copper wire bracket attached to end pin. This instrument is part of the Albert C. Spencer collection.
