Kundu
This object was collected by Sister Avis Martin, who lived and worked in Papua New Guinea as a nurse, and presumably brought it to the United Kingdom. Avis Martin donated some material she collected in Papua New Guinea in 1980. This drum is part of a collection of material donated by Avis Martin's niece, Jacqueline Marsh, who lived with her aunt in Mailu, Papua New Guinea, for two years from 1967-69. It is a single-headed, hourglass-shaped drum made of a single piece of carved wood with a membrane of reptile skin glued onto the rim, having a hoop of plaited rattan.
