Lute

The body is made from 15 yew ribs, each one joined with a 1mm wide ebony strip. The soundboard is made from two pieces of bookmatched European spruce edged with ebony. The bridge is made of pearwood and has an ebony veneer. The neck and both pegboxes are made from maple. The neck has a curved ebony fingerboard with 8 tied gut frets. The back of the neck is veneered with ebony and inlaid with 12 narrow stripes of boxwood. The back of each peg box has a pierced and carved relief design by Martin Bowers. The instrument is coated with clear oil varnish. The lute is based on the 7 course by Venere/Tiefenbrucker from1582, the peg box is inspired by Raphael Mest instruments and the rose pattern has similarities with a Venere rose on a lute from 1592.
