Bow

Silver mounted violin bow with an octagonal Pernambuco wood stick. The "stopped" Hill fitting, which is common for tortoiseshell frogs, consists of a pair of flats marking the frog area at the end of the handle. The frog is made of tortoiseshell. A silver fleur-de-lys is inset into the back and front of the frog. Silver is also used for the ferrule, the small heel plate, face and button. The slide and the heel plate are made of mother-of-pearl. Silver wire wrapping and a black thumb leather protect the octagonal handle. 'W.E.Hill & Sons' is branded on the handle above the frog, 'X 33' on the underslide area of the frog, 'X 34' on the handle, between the lapping and mortise.
