Ocarina

Ocarina in B-flat, vessel flute with duct and finger holes. The glazed terracotta vessel is circular in cross section, and is pointed at both ends. A flattened tubular mouthpiece extends from the longest side near the widest part of the body and is angled slightly towards the shorter conical end. It has a mouth hole the top of the duct which meets a round mouth or window on the underside of the body. There are eight finger holes on the upper side of the body and two thumb holes on the underside. The maker's stamp is impressed in the top surface of the mouthpiece. With original box (1972.151a) and instruction leaflet. The leaflet indicates fingering for a chromatic range between 'middle c' C4 (c') to E-flat 5 (e-flat'').
