Althorn

Althorn, tenor horn. Brass tubing with silver plating. Three Périnet valves, two valves missing, and one valve missing a touch. Valves are configured in accordance with Besson's "Enharmonic Patent" double principle system, so that the first and second valves have alternative loops for when used in combination with the third valve. Water key on tuning slide. Socket for music card holder on main first valve loop. Bell is decorated with floral engravings and stamped: CLASS A/Enharmonic/Patented/50 MEDALS OF HONOUR/FB/BESSON &Co./198 EUSTON ROAD/LONDON/ENGLAND; Second valve casing stamped: BESSON & Co./BREVETE/97865; Valve casings are also stamped 1,2,3, respectively.
