Horn; suura koma

Suura koma, bell and middle section only of a crescent-shaped brass horn. The tubing is conical and has a seam along the inside of the curve consisting of wide interlocking tabs along the two edges. It is encircled by three rings, which are rounded and ridged in profile. A flat metal garland with an undulating lower edge encircles the bell. Three badges are attached on the outer side of the curve, a large one above the distal ring and smaller ones above the proximal ring and below the garland. The proximal end terminates in a cylindrical tenon for attachment to the missing third section. Small hoops on the inside of the curve at the two ends of the section each have a metal ring for the attachment of a carrying strap. The ring at the proximal end has a piece of red fabric tied to it in a knot. The horn 2007.349 is a complete example of this instrument, with a mouthpiece. Made in Parlakhemundi, Gajapathi, Orissa.
