Oboe
Unmounted body for Boehm-system design oboe. Dalbergia melanoxylon (African blackwood, granadilla) with silver ferrule, reed receiver lined with silver sleeve. Formerly property of Antoine Joseph Lavigne, principal oboist of the Hallé Orchestra and ardent proponent of the Boehm system oboe. The conical bore enlarges rapidly, and the pad and fingerholes are unusually large. Lent to the Royal Military Exhibition of 1890 by Boosey & Co.
