Oboe

Oboe. African blackwood (grenadilla) with nickel silver-plated keywork, reed receiver and ferrules. Three joints. Upper joint tenon string lapped, lower joint tenon cork lapped. Keys have circular flat flaps with fish skin pads. Simple system fingering with thumb lever for B flat (missing). Half hole plate key. Brille key. Double tone hole. Upper and lower joints carry stamped inscriptions. These are very worn and only partly legible. They both appear within an oval outline of dots and begin with the word: BUFFET; The bell is stamped: BUFFET/Crampon & Cie/A PARIS; with a harp emblem above the inscription and the initials BC below.
