Phonofiddle, with hardwood body and integral neck. The ebony fingerboard has six inlaid frets. Single steel string. Green felt-padded knee-grips are attached to the lower end of the instrument enabling it to be held between the legs like a 'cello. The copper horn is formed of two sections: a tab-seamed branch attached to a spun bell, and is attached to the lower end of instrument with a wing nut. On the base of the body is a round, cream coloured plastic plaque with the inscription: 'TRADEMARK PHONO-FIDDLE REG:NO:28799L', and Arthur Howson's signature.
