Panpipes
Panpipes. Fourteen glass tubes of graduated length and diameter, positioned so that the rims are adjacent, but the lower ends fan outwards. A frame is formed from four lengths of wood fixed as two parallel pairs on each side. They are bound together with a dark coloured cord, which passes between the pipes. Each pipe is stopped with cork. The largest pipe is stopped at the bottom. The corks in the other pipes are positioned progressively further in, with the cork of the smallest pipe inserted approximately one third of the way up. The upper rims are chamfered.
