Side-blown horn
Side blown horn. A large horn, carved from a single piece of wood into the conical and curved shape of a tusk, with a spherical knob at the proximal end. A mouth hole is cut approximately one quarter of the way down on the outside of the curve. The mouth hole is elongated and has inward-sloping sides, creating a narrower aperture inside. The entire exterior of the horn is carved with embossed geometric shapes and zoomorphic designs. A band above the mouth hole has lizards facing down the instrument. A band at the level of the mouth hole has goats or sheep. Below these are a band of diamond-shaped geometric designs, and beneath these a line of birds with wings outstretched. Four further bands of geometric shapes cover the surface between these and the rim of the bell.
