Tube zither; fiddle
Fiddle, bowed monochord tube zither. The body consists of a length of bamboo, closed at each end by a node. A single string of horsehair is anchored in the base, carried over a bridge and a nut and through an opening to a peg. The peg has a head with four points, and it is split at the narrow end. There is a line of five small, variously shaped soundholes under the string. The whole is varnished light brown and painted with foliage in green.
