Spike fiddle; rebab

Rebab tiga tali, spike fiddle. The resonator is of palm(?) wood painted black. The skin soundtable is glued to the resonator and covered with a textile band that is sewn with a string of gold and silver coloured beads. The weight that was once adhered to the soundtable is now absent, but there is a mark indicating its former location. Cream coloured silk(?) threads are attached beneath the top of the band, and hang down over the back (shown in the photograph). A cotton bag containing rosin is also attached at the top of the back. Wood and bamboo neck. The finial, pegs and spike are elaborately carved and painted. There are three wire overwound strings, of graduated thickness. They are bound to the neck with cord, in place of a nut, and run to the metal tailpiece that is fixed to the spike. Small arched bridge.
