Transverse flute
Transverse flute. one key. The flute is made of ivory in four joints. It has three interchangeable upper joints (corps de rechange) allowing the instrument to sound at three different pitches. It is fitted with a single gilt key. The touch piece is engraved with scrolling foliage and the slightly irregular square flap is decorated with bagpipes. The original embouchure-hole has been plugged and a new one cut on the other side of the head joint. The instrument retains its fitted case covered with tooled leather. Each joint inscribed: London.
