Masenqo; spike fiddle

Masenqo, spike fiddle, and bow. The resonator consists of a lozenge shaped box made of planks joined with twists of wire. It is covered with two pieces of antelope(?) hide, with some of the hair removed, and bound together with black tape. The peg box is represented by a flattened section of the spike, and terminates in a spear-head shaped finial. The peg is slightly tapered and rounded. It is unpierced, and the string is attached to it by means of plastic covered wire. The bridge consists of an angled twig with a hole through which the string passes. The string consists of a number of strands of horsehair, which are bound with thread just above the bridge; the horsehair and thread are both tied to spike below the body. The bow is an angled piece of wood, the hairs are bound on with rope at the proximal end, and pass through a hole at the distal end, where they are securely knotted.
