Siren

Siren, rotating aerophone. Silver plated sphere in two halves. One half houses a wheel, which is secured by a semi-circular arm across its face. The wheel has six holes close to the rim and there are six corresponding holes in the face beneath. Air can pass through these holes when they align with those on the wheel, as they are connected to a hole on the outside face, which is covered by a grille. An inscription on the plate beneath the wheel reads: 11099/?????? [eureka]. The outside of this half is embossed with floral designs. The other half is a covering for the mechanism with openwork filigree in an elaborate floral design on its entire surface.
