Free reed instrument

Typotone, mouth blown free reed instrument. The gold reed is rectangular with a circular foot at the end. This section is rivetted to an elongated octagonal mother-of-pearl plate with two gold pins. The slot for the reed is rectangular with stepped edges, creating a wider rectangular opening on the proximal face. '378' is incised on the surface of this face on one side of the slot, and 'Pinsonnat' (?) on the other side (although this is barely legible). The case is of wood covered with red paper and lined with cream coloured velvet. Brass catch mechanism on front face. 'TYPOTONE' is printed in gold on the top surface, within a gold double frame.
