Rebec
Rebec, fiddle, The body is in the form of a truncated triangle, with rounded edges. The belly is of pine with a geometrical soundhole composed of 8 lozenge-shaped holes encircling a rectangular hole. It is of violin construction with a separate back and ribs of maple. Four circular holes are cut into the ribs. The four strings are attached to boxwood pegs. The pegbox terminates in a square finial. Labelled: "Arnold Dolmetsch / Haslemere / June 1934 No." The accompanying bow (M43a-1983) has an outward curving, octagonal stick with neither a distinct head nor an adjustable frog.
