Anglo-German system concertina. Solid mahogany block ends, 6.56in/167mm across parallel sides, with sheet brass plate covering buttons and with exposed levers and pallets. 21 buttons: 10 each side + 1 air, one-piece domed brass buttons, levers and pallets. Steel tongues riveted onto one-piece zinc reed plates. 5-fold green leather bellows with gold star papers. Left-hand strap and screw absent, right-hand strap black leather with brass screw, mounted on arched hand bars, the pallets beneath. Oval brass plaque soldered to action plate: 'FF Hess, patent metal concertina N.174', with coat of arms and 'FFH' monogram. No serial number.
