Bagpipe; cabrette

A cabrette (cornemuse), mouth blown bagpipe. All the pipes are of stained fruitwood. The conical chanter and tenor drone (petit bourdon) are parallel. They are housed in a common rectangular stock that is inlaid with mother-of-pearl and is stamped 'VIGNAR'. The chanter has seven finger holes, one thumb hole and ivory ferrules at both ends. The tenor drone is in two joints, the lower with an ivory ferrule at both ends, the upper with an ivory ferrule at the top and a tenon at the bottom. A narrow cylindrical stock at the side of the bag houses the bass drone (grand bourdon), which is in two joints, each with an ivory ferrule at both ends. Close to the bass drone stock and positioned half way across the neck of the bag is the blowpipe, which is short and conical and has an ivory ferrule at the rim of its stock. The bag has a cover of crimson velvet with a line of small round buttons close to the narrow end. The joint chanter and tenor drone stock is of rectagular form and inlaid with mother of pearl.
