Method of hair tightening: simple screw mechanism, frog with ferrule. Stick: made of pernambuco, dark red, with hint of brown, varnished; cross section is round, octagonal towards frog end, only visible for c. 80mm beyond grip; burgundy leather snake-skin grip, no thread. Head: facing: plain; tip is carved into a scroll; looking from the front shape of elongated almond; trapezoid plug; triangular plane. Frog: made of horn; rectangular plane with an oval hole and small c-shape undercutting; silver ferrule, engraved & with traces of gold plating; slide of mother-of-pearl; silver backplate engraved with foliate elements; screw cap octagonal in cross-section, made of silver-ebony-silver with inlaid mother-of-pearl tip; screw made of iron; eyelet of brass; liner made of German silver; an extra hole for the eyelet suggests the position of the nut has been altered.
