Method of hair tightening: screw mechanism, frog with ferrule. Stick: made of pernambuco; cross section round at head end, octagonal for c.400mm at frog end; no grip; at the frog end there is an inlaid decoration which extends 14.5mm on the 3 faces where the frog rests and 61.1mm on the upper 5 faces; on all except the upper face the inlay is a single strip of mother-of-pearl; on the top face alternate lozenges and disks of mother-of-pearl are inset into an ?ebony strip. Head: facing: inner ebony and outer brass strips also embracing the tip, with a small brass nail on the tip; trapezoid plane; trapezoid plug. Frog: made of ebony with mother-of-pearl inlay on both sides depicting leaves and acorns; trapezoid plane with c-shape undercut; rear corner perpendicular; brass ferrule; mother-of-pearl slide; silver backplate; screw cap missing; screw made of iron (rust); eyelet of brass.
