Clay bell ('dorei') (a) in shape of cartoon figure of the poet Matsuo Basho, an old man dressed in grey with matching hat, holding a walking stick in his right hand and a straw hat in his left. The straw hat is inscribed with a haiku poem from Oku no hosomichi, 'A Narrow Road to the Far North'. The bell can be hung by a yellow silk cord which passes through two holes at the top of the figure's head and hat. Packaging is cardboard box (b) decorated with white cherry blossoms on a red background. The type of object, is identified on the lid and on one side, the contents are identified with the name Basho and the first line of the haiku painted on the figure.
