Bark trumpet
Small coiled bark reedpipe, made of Lombardy Poplar (Populus nigra var pyramidalis). Although this instrument may be commonly known as bark trumpet, it is classified as a reedpipe because it is sounded through a small twisted reed mouthpiece, also made of very fine bark. It is possible that this example is a "May flute" from the lower Rhine, which is similar to the whithorn (Oxford), the "truba od kore" (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the "kelttitorvi" (Finland). This example was donated by the great botanist and explorer Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker.
