back: 1 piece of sycamore, generously arched and full-bodied; single purfling; varnish red-brown over gold; edges rounded, corners well shaped; button rounded, grooved at joint. Belly: 2 pieces of pine, lh wide-grained, rh narrow, moderately arched, well marked edges and single purfling carried well into the corners; f-holes rounded, upright; varnish warm golden-brown. Ribs: sycamore, carved in 1 piece around lower bouts; bass-bar original; endpin ivory, with black line around centre; endnut ebony; tailpiece ebony, original, gut-tied through 2 holes, with an ivory nut let in; fingerboard is a cut wedge shaped of ebony, raised on a wedge of stained oak, with very thin nut; neck: signs of much use, sycamore, 1 piece with the head; Pegbox: well-heeled, slightly rounded edges, 4 boxwood pegs.
