Oboe. Nominal pitch: C.
Technical description: Rosewood with probably nickel plated keys. Sockets and reed well are metal lined. Semi-automatic octaves. The second octave key is positioned about 45° to the right of the normal, central position. The conservatoire action is on R1, R2 and R3. The R2 plate is independent of the R3 ring although both close the brille and both are on the same axle. Depressing the lowC key lowers the R2 plate and R3 ring and closes the brille. L0: TP; 8.1. L1: PP; 8.2; spat. L2: R; Dtr-alt; spat. L3: R; D♭tr. L4: G♯; lowB; lowB♭; E♭-alt. R0: sup. R1: R; G♯tr. R2: PP. R3: R; F. R4: lowC; C♯; E♭. Repair History: The conservatoire mechanism is probably an addition; there are signs of soldering and the lever linking the sections has not been plated.
