Cornet. Nominal pitch: B♭ etc.

Technical description: Brass. 'Modèle français', with the valves positioned to the left of both mouthpipe and bellpipe. Leadpipe enters 3rd valve casing at the back (sic); 3rd valve loop leaves from front and returns to front; 1st valve loop leaves from back and back; bellpipe exits 1st valve casing at the front (sic). No water-key. With shank for B♭ and crook for G. Valve type: 2nd valve is Périnet. 1st and 3rd are transitional type, retaining the narrow diameter and vertical windways of the Stölzel piston, but not with the casing continuing into the main tubing of the instrument. All three valves top-sprung, spring outside stem enclosed in a capsule; alignment by key on piston. The valve passages are arranged so that the windway passes straight through all three valves when 1st and 3rd valves are operated. Repair History: The shank for B♭ appears to be a replacement as its serial number does not match the instrument.
