Beater, timpani; one only.
Technical description: Probably one of a pair. The soft felt head is a separate ring of material fixed on a threaded arbor of ebonite or other black synthetic material with a circular 'nut' of horn to hold the felt in place. This is mounted on a cane shaft with a 12mm diameter knob on the end of it. This construction may have been intended to allow the performer to replace the felt head with one of a different hardness or weight but not during performance). Total mass 25g; head mass 15g (60%).
