Technical description: ebony; one piece; 7 finger-holes (R4 hole is raised); 2 heavy german silver ferrules; long german silver cap with finial; rounded rectangular `Reform' embouchure-hole; raised wooden ring between head and body but no joint; raised ridges on underside for L0 and R0; pronounced swelling around the embouchure-hole; slight variation in size of finger-holes (R2 is larger, and R3 smaller, than the others).; Nominal pitch: B♭.; Type or system: Keyless.; Usable pitch: sounding A₄ c|441|Hz.; Performance characteristics: [original range D₄|-|G₆ (sounding C₅|-|F₇)]; speaks strongly and easily in lowest octave but not in upper registers; plays progressively flatter through middle register in present condition.
