Presentation bugle in B-flat

Double-coiled presentation bugle made of silver plated copper and brass. Ring plate for mouthpiece chain on second bow. Silver plated mouthpiece and nickel-silver chain. Additional pigtail crook and straight bit for A tuning. Nominal pitch: 4-1/2-foot B-flat. This instrument was presented to the Drums, 4th Battalion, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment) by the Lt. Col. Charles Rudyard Simpson on their formation in 1900. Simpson served in the Soudan, 1898, with the Lincolnshire Regiment, and was made Lieutenant Colonel in February 1900. The 4th Battalion was formed in 1900 and disbanded in 1923.
