Player piano
A pianola also known as a player piano or mechanical piano. A rectangular dark wooden musical instrument. The top has three hinged sections, the centre of which folds down to reveal an inscription in gold gothic script; 'Pianola. Metrostyle. Thermodist. The Orchestrelle Co.' Behind can be seen a pierced roll of paper to play the music. On the other side is a row of pedals or hammers, which may be used to play the keys of an actual piano, if this is the item on the accession register above. The front has a sliding compartment at the base to reveal a pair of pedals. The front is decorated with four wooden rectangular pilasters. It has castors underneath, but has not been moved from its present location.
