Mandolin labelled inside - 'Donatus Filano fecit Neapoli 1761'. Holes for eight pegs on the head - three ebony pegs extant. Ten German silver frets on the fingerboard, three more in ebony on the table. Elaborate decoration in tortoiseshell, ivory, mother-of-pearl and coloured wax ? on the body, a panel of tortoiseshell below the rose. Twenty-three maple ribs - fluted - around the back, divided by ebony stringing. Five ivory pegs at the bottom. Leather-covered wooden case made to fit exactly, the front hinged from the base, fastening with a lock and hooks at the top. A label nailed to the case is inscribed 'For/Sir Henry Harpur...'
