Box zither

Zither violina, bowed box zither, stamped at the wrest pins: 'By Royal Letters Patent', printed on the back: 'Trade Mark' and: 'Zither Violina', and stamped: 'T.W. Upcott, 26 Edgware Road, Hyde Park, W. Musical Instrument Manufacturer''. The instrument has two metal strings and a rectangular body with a pair of wrest pins on the face at one end. The fingerboard is of ebony, with twenty-nine metal frets. Two musical scales are inscribed on brass plates either side of the fingerboard next to the two strings, with notes corresponding to the frets. On the inside of the lid of the wooden case are instructions on how to play the zither violina.
