Cylindrical drum; nkak
Nkak or tuum, cylindrical drum. Bobingo (? 'Bubinga' Guibourtia demeusei) wood shell terminating at the distal end in three carved out triangles, their apexes resting on a black-painted circular foot. There is a lateral grove cut around the body two thirds of the way down with a black painted band immediately above. The top rim has a rounded profile.The hide membrane covers this chamfer and is secured immediately beneath by a concealed hoop. This is laced with four twisted blue plastic cords, which are attached to a lower hoop of twisted red sinew. The lacing is tensioned by four wooden wedges forced under the lower hoop.
