Tenor drum. Painted wood shell. Vellum heads. Rope tensioned, with leather tug ears. Rope section for carrying/holding drum knotted with drummer's plait. Shell emblazoned with highly decorative regimental insignia. 'YORK & LANCASTER/REGIMENT/1st BAT.' painted in black on a gold ground. Maker's mark painted in gold letters on a black ground, from top to bottom of drum. BOOSEY & Co. MAKERS, LONDON. Royal arms painted on shell contain the motto: HON[I].[S]OIT.QU[I].[M]AL.[Y.] [PE]NSE./DIEU.ET.MON.DROIT
