Friction drum; cuica
Cuíca, friction drum, 10 inch model. The cylindrical shell and counterhoop of stainless steel, with eight steel tension rods. One end of a narrow fixed stick passes through the goatskin head, and is suspended within the drum. The stick has a string attached to the end on the outside of the head. The membrane vibrates when the stick is rubbed with a damp cloth. The maker's name 'CONTEMPORÂNEA' is printed on the head in black within a red frame, and is stamped on the counterhoop.
