Square piano
A single action English square piano made in London by Broadwood & Son in 1799. Five and a half octave chromatic compass from FF to c4, double strung throughout. The cranked and pivoted brass damper levers are positioned below the strings. There are no pedals or stop levers. Case of mahogany with stringing consisting of a strip of ebony sandwiched between strips of a lighter wood, possibly boxwood or holly. The stand has four square tapered legs integral with an apron in which the instrument rests. There is no music shelf or dust cover.
