Bugle
Bugle presented to boy bugler William Walker, who served in HMS 'Calliope' at the Battle of Jutland. Silver-plated bugle inscribed on top 'PRESENTED BY THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF TO W.R.WALKER, HMS "CALLIOPE", 31st MAY 1916'. Below is inscribed 'BOOSEY & CO. 1915. N' and a broad arrow. There is a removeable mouthpiece inscribed with the maker's name and a broad arrow, on a chain. William Walker of Kennington was a boy bugler on HMS 'Calliope', who stood at his post until wounded at the battle of Jutland, 31 May 1916. With the bugle is the framed front page of the 'Daily Sketch', 18 October 1916 (PLT0205.1) with photographs of William Walker visiting his old school, using the new bugle presented to him by Sir John Jellicoe to sound the 'Commence', and with his widowed mother and teachers.
