Dasheng Huangzhongqing Zhong (Bronze bell with studs)

The top loop (niu) was broken into 6 pieces and has been restored. Made of Bronze. The shape and structure of this bell were modelled on Song Gongcheng’s instruments of the Pre-qin period [221 BC]. The body of the bell is shaped like a combined pair of tiles and has a flat bottom rim (yu). The two xuan points are straight and at slanted angles. Based on examination of other existing Dasheng bronze bells, the broken top loop (niu) of this bell was originally shaped like two dragons. There are 36 spiral studs on the surface of the body. The lower part of the upper surface (wu), the areas (zhuan) between the studs, the gu and the borders of the centre panel (zheng) are all decorated with panchi patterns.
