Bronze Drum with Flying Flag Pattern (attachment 6)

Generally well preserved. There are cracks on the top surface of the drum. One ear on the upper section of the drum is broken and missing. The middle section is broken and has a small hole. The lower section is slightly incomplete. Made of bronze, with greyish-green colour on the surface. The body of the drum is short and squat and has 4 casting marks. The top surface is slightly smaller than the upper section of the drum, but is extended slightly wider than the neck of the drum. The upper section is decorated with 2 pairs of flat ears. Ten single-lined rings of decreasing size are cast on the top surface of the drum, one inside the other. At the centre, there is a sun with twelve rays and simplified peacock feather “eye” patterns. The sun rays are thin and long with the tips of the rays extending over the third ring. In between the rings, there are “?”-shaped patterns, studs, flying flag patterns (the main design), thunder and cloud patterns and so on. The body of the drum is decorated with 9 patterned bands that include studs, thunder and cloud patterns, multi-line angular shape patterns and so on. The ears have cord patterns on them.
